Skype Founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis behind Music Startup Rdio

14 October 2009 No Comment

Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, angel investors and the former founders of successes like Skype and Kazaa and less successful Joost, are rumored to be behind the new music startup Rdio (www.rdio.com), TechCrunch and the NYTimes reported. So far, the website shows only a logo and a field to add your email to the mailing list.

NYTimes reporter Brad Stone writes that the startup will offer a paid subscription-based music consumption and purchasing platform for both PCs and mobile phones, starting early next year. Needless to say, that the main challenge for Rdio will be to get the major players from the record industry on board. That Zennström and Friis have upset the record industry execs with their peer-to-peer file sharing service Kazaa may make things no less complicated.
