Last Friday, the Financial Times reported that UK-based Channel 4 has signed a pioneering content deal with YouTube, becoming the first broadcaster to make a comprehensive range of full-length television shows available on the video sharing site.

Yesterday, QuickPlay Media, the company behind the full-fledged video to mobile service QuickPlay, announced a $12 million round of financing. According to their press release, the placement was led by GMP Securities L.P. and included participation from existing venture capital partners General Catalyst Partners, JLA Ventures and Ventures West.

Gossip Girl” has become the first U.S. TV series to stream online at ProSieben.tv, one of German ProSiebenSat.1’s online properties, Warner Bros. reported. It will be available to viewers on an ad-supported basis.

The movie studios Lionsgate, Paramount, and MGM have joined forces to launch Epix, an HD television channel and accompanying online 720p streaming service, as Nate Anderson of ars technica reported today. It’s like Hulu, but for movies not yet released on DVD. Epix will air movies that are in the “pay-TV” window, i.e. the weeks before a movie gets released on DVD.

Today, TechCrunch reported, that Italy-based startup beeTV has secured $8 million from Italian VC firm Innogest. beeTV aims to revolutionize the way we watch TV by introducing a Personal Content Channel, a personal TV suggestion system that helps you find your way in the ocean of VOD content out there.

Nielson has recently released its Global Online Media Landscape report for April 2009.

Here some of the findings: Social media and video engagement deepens; video audiences have been growing at meteoric rates; accessing videos online has gone mainstream; growth in early 2009 is centered around long-form videos (e.g. hulu, NBC Universal, …).
